Asco Numatics 438 Series Pneumatic Cylinders

The ASCO 438 series of round cylinders are compliant with ISO 6431 standards, making them interchangeable with ISO 15552 cylinders when in the mounted condition, or equipped with an MP4 mount such as the one integrated in this series. The versatile 438 unit is operable with a number of mediums including filtered, lubricated and general air or inert gas. These cylinders are now replaced by the Aventics RPC series, however some spares are still available. Please contact us for residual spares enquiries.

Key Features

Key features and benefits of the Asco Numatics 438 Series Pneumatic Cylinders
1

Key Features

With their ISO 6431 footprint, 438 series cylinders were often used as an alternative to ISO 15552 profile cylinders.
2

Key Features

The 438 series were constructed of high-grade anodised alloys and steel piston rods, making for a light but resilient cylinder.
3

Key Features

A 438 series cylinder had a wide selection of mountings, and could be mounted in any position without affecting performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

A pneumatic cylinder is a mechanical device that uses compressed air acting on a piston within a sealed cylinder to produce a force in a reciprocating linear motion. This tool is widely used in various industrial applications where quick, forceful motion is required.
Pneumatic cylinders work by converting the energy of compressed air into mechanical energy. Air is pumped into the cylinder, which moves the piston forward or backward. This movement can then be used to operate machinery, lift loads, or move items.
There are primarily two types of pneumatic cylinders: single-acting and double-acting. Single-acting cylinders use air pressure to move the piston in one direction and a spring to return it to its original position. Double-acting cylinders use air pressure for movements in both directions.
Pneumatic cylinders offer numerous benefits, including simplicity, low maintenance, durability, and cost-effectiveness. They are safe to use in hazardous environments and provide a clean operation without the risk of chemical contamination.
Yes, pneumatic cylinders can be equipped with various sensors and regulators that allow for precise control over speed, position, and force, making them suitable for applications requiring exact movements.
Performance can be affected by several factors, including air quality and pressure, cylinder size, load, speed of operation, and environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity.
Selecting the right cylinder involves considering the stroke length, load requirements, operating pressure, and the environment in which it will be used. Consulting with a specialist or a manufacturer can also help tailor the selection to your specific needs.
Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing worn seals, ensuring that air filters are clean to avoid contamination, and verifying that all connections are secure. It's also crucial to monitor the air quality and pressure to maintain optimal performance.
While pneumatic systems are not as energy-efficient as some electric-driven alternatives, they are highly effective in specific scenarios where high speed and force are required. Improvements in system design, such as proper sizing and reducing leaks, can enhance their energy efficiency.
Pneumatic cylinders are typically made from materials such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. The choice depends on the application's specific needs, including the required strength, weight, and resistance to environmental factors.
